Was he insured to undertake such a dangerous activity..? Probably not..
Tax payers picking up the tab yet again. If we are going to have people putting their lives at risk on the moors lets insist that they are insured to cover costs should anything go wrong as did with this young lad. (hope he's OK) It should be made clear to people who are going on the moors risking their lives cycling hiking fell running etc that they will be presented with a bill for emergency services should problems arise on their endeavours which would force the sheeple to insure themselves to go on the moors or any other life risking activity.

Here we go again - wondered how long it would be before the self-righteous came on here spouting "insurance" and all the usual drivel.

Maybe you'd prefer the young lad to be hanging around street corners, or sat festering in his bedroom playing X-Box?

And oh yes, forgot to mention, NWAA is funded by donations - it's a charity supported by lots of groups, in particular those who may call upon it.

Now get a life and jog on (just mind you don't slip, or you may just be wasting more tax-payers money)

Are you thinking clearly? The logical extension to that is insurance for everyone to cover everything.

What if I fall and break my leg whilst in town? Do I need insurance for that?

Your plan would price people out of using the moors.

CRO and MR offer their time for free, the Air Ambulance is a charity, exactly what part of your hard earned tax is being wasted? Someone breaks their leg playting football on a Saturday afternoon and an ambulance is called to take them to the hospital, are they insured?

Calm down girls..If divvies wish to risk their necks it makes sense to get them insured it would provide them with much better services than they have now. Am sure the people who raise money for the NWAA and the service itself is wonderful and not costing the tax payer anything. But if sheeple who venture up the moors were insured private rescue helicopters would be in the air competing to rescue the nutters. However the charity only rescues these idiots us tax payers have to pay to put them back together again time after time which am sure Redbike understands or he is just being silly with his comment.

Info-warrior - don't worry your sweet little cheeks, I am calm.

I just wish people like yourself would worry more about the people who don't put anything into the system at all, which is a far bigger problem than the odd Mountain Biker or Hiker breaking an arm / leg etc.

I actually find people with your outlook quite amusing.

If you want people to get insurance for dangerous activities why not target drinkers, smokers and drug users too? They are a far bigger drain on our taxes than anyone out enjoying the countryside and fresh air.

So sadly true sir..
Those sort of scumbags are truely a drain on resources sir and I would be the first to tax them for their selfish lifestyles if taxing them would serve any purpose apart from increasing crime to pay their fines. It's quite an impossible position were they are concerned. Re-education camps is one answer to the selfish parasites druggy p1ssheads but once they have been rounded up and forgotten about how long before the fingers pointing back at the urban ramblers. Its everyone thats draining resources.. Ask any Bankster..

Truly pathetic. Regulate everyone and anything and god-forbid anyone that should want to have fun without first filling in (triplicate, natch) several forms restricting them to do only what is sanctioned by the nanny state or your prurient nosey interests.

Sling your two most dangerous word (health and safety) philosophy somewhere else you moaning auld woman.

Those dreaded times are on there way I'm affraid to inform you Crispy..
It won't be long before there is an alternative emergency number for those who have private medical insurance most likely 666 to wisk them off to their private hospitals and the rest of us will be left to fight it out for beds in the crumbling NHS and if the spiv tories could get away with it they would make it law that you most have private medical insurance just like Obama has done over the pond.ObamaCare more formally known as "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act," will impose massive penalties on young workers, small businesses and others who choose not to buy expensive health insurance, beginning in 2014. ObamaCare is the biggest handout by liberals to a single interest group -- the health insurance industry -- in American history. And guess what its coming to these shores in the not to distant future so please don't shoot the messenger.

What the foley hook has all that (poorly written) political mumbo-jumbo got to do with your initial snidey question, couched in pseudo-concerned interest? You've been shown up and switch your focus to deflect attention away from the fact that you've been made to look stupid. And this is yet another name change you've appeared under. It's getting tragic now.
