New dentists join Burnley practice

MORE than 2,500 NHS dental places have opened up at a Burnley practice.
Ravat and Ray Dental Care, based at The Fold Centre for Integrated Health and Wellbeing in Venice Avenue, is inviting people to register, after recruiting two new two dentists: Dr Nitika Virmani and Dr Ilyaz Uddin.
Dr Virmani, 31, qualified in dentistry in India almost a decade ago before moving to the UK in 2006, where she sat further qualifying exams.
Fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu, she undertook her year-long NHS training in Nelson.
She said: “The people of Burnley don’t realise how lucky they are to have access to NHS dentists on their doorstep.
“I would certainly recommend that people get into the habit of attending the dentist routinely, and I’d like to encourage everyone to register with a dentist. Poor oral health can have a real effect on your physical and mental health.
“Looking after your teeth is vitally important for long-term health.”
Dr Uddin, 38, who graduated last year from Manchester University, work- ed previously in the private and public sectors.
He added: “Having a healthy mouth is much more than healthy teeth and a nice smile, it is also essential to the overall health and wellbeing of an individual.
“Poor oral health and untreated oral diseases can affect the health of an individual in other ways such as including the ability to maintain proper nutrition and even communicate.”
Bosses at NHS East Lancashire who commissioned the service, said there is no waiting list for NHS places for dental patients in the primary care trust area, and that people from outside Burnley, but still inside the East Lancashire remit, can travel to the practice for treatment.
Sharon Young, of NHS East Lancashire, said: “I am delighted to welcome the arrival of Drs Virmani and Uddin to Burnley and am confident that they will offer the residents of Burnley a first class service in dentistry.
“As a brand new practice, Ravat and Ray have the latest technology to provide their patients with the highest quality dental care.”
Drs Virmani and Uddin are available for appointments between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
To register, call in to the practice or call 01282 644932.
