£6.2m refurb to transform Barnoldswick school

A £6.2MILLION refurbishment at a Pendle secondary school has been unveiled.

The scheme at West Craven High Technology College, in Barnoldswick, was shown to the public for the first time as the school celebrated its 70th anniversary this weekend.

Under the plans, several old buildings will be demolished on the site and new ones erected.

County Coun Keith Bailey, who represents that area, said: “The first of three phases will see the school move into the 21st century with state of the art facilities and an environment conducive to learning and education.

“Each phase of this new build will take place each subsequent financial year and will be stand alone builds in that way no phase will rely on the previous phase to be completed.”

The project will include a brand new feature extension adjacent to the hall which will provide new teaching spaces and a technology suite.

There will also be a revamped main entrance, new science and art spaces on the first floor and additional social areas for pupils.

Geoff Driver, leader of Lancashire County Council, said: “We have to be sure that we invest the county's scarce resources where they are most needed.

“Councillor Keith Bailey lobbied hard for West Craven and presented a compelling case and I am delighted with this project.”
