A TRAIN narrowly escaped being derailed after hitting concrete blocks left on the track by vandals.
The empty 4.24am train on the Northern Rail line from Blackpool South to Colne hit the blocks near Lytham.
The debris caused serious damage to the undercarriage of the train.
Engineers were called to the site to remove the train.
As a result, the 5.42am train from Blackpool South was cancelled and the 6.42am was replaced by a bus.
The 7.42am train terminated at Burnley to try to reduce delays to passengers travelling during peak times.
Northern Line apologised to passengers for the delay.
