HEAVY rain has started to batter East Lancashire this morning as the region braces itself for more floods today and tomorrow.

The Environment Agency has issued an Amber Alert for heavy rain and localised flooding until tomorrow, with two months worth of rain set to fall in the next two days.

Last night the ASDA supermarket in Colne had to be evacuated after torrential rain caused the roof to start leaking water.

The store was closed and staff worked through the night to get it reopen for customers this morning.

Heavy rain in Colne had around 8pm last night also caused the roof to leak at Colne Town Hall during the month Colne Committee meeting.

Rain water leaked down one side of the historic main council chamber, while a drip also caused one councillor to move his seat.
