Fallen tree blocks A59 at Samlesbury

A MAJOR route into Blackburn town centre has been closed because of a fallen tree.

The A59, Preston New Road, Samlesbury, has been closed by police while Blackburn with Darwen council attempt to break the tree down and remove it.

The road is closed between the junction with Vicarage Lane up to the traffic lights and the petrol station.

There is a diversion in place taking vehicles onto to Vicarage Lane onto Cuerden Lane and then back round to re-join the A59.

HGVs are advised to find an alternative route as this diversion passes under a low bridge.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
