THIS is how a prominent part of south-west Burnley’s multi-million pound regeneration plans will look if councillors approve.

Developers Keepmoat have unveiled proposals for land between Tay Street and Hameldon Approach which they hope will attract families to the area.

The bid by the Doncaster-based firm is part of moves to eventually create 500 new homes in the area along the Accrington Road corridor.

Plans reveal a mix of 49 homes, ranging from two to three bedrooms, an increase of 14 properties for previous estimates for the land, which is close to Tay Street’s Sure Start centre.

Planning agent Phil Dowson said: “It has been demonstrated that there is a significant and growing need for new residential family accommodation within south-west Burnley.

“If approved, the proposed development would assist Burnley Borough Council with providing sustainable, high-quality accommodation to meet the needs in the area.”

New estates have already taken shape on the M65 side of Accrington Road, behind Burdett Street and Jockey Street.

And the first of the newly-constructed homes in the Cog Street and Smirthwaite Street area, opposite the new Farm Foods store, are now also being sold through estate agents.

Redevelopment is also being awaited for the fire-hit block between Hargher Street and Clough Street, which has been boarded-up for some time.

Plans to demolish and rebuild homes in south-west Burnley and Burnley Wood have been ongoing, under various housing market renewal programmes, since 2007.
