Family in grieving after 40ft window plunge man dies from his injuries

A MAN who fell 40ft from a second-storey window has died from his injuries.

Police said Yasir Patel, 28, fell from a window at Torestin – a collection of flats and bedsits – on the corner of Sted Terrace and Shear Brow in Blackburn on Friday afternoon.

The emergency services were called at about 12.30pm to reports of an unconscious man on the pavement with ‘serious bleeding’.

A police spokesman said: “Following the viewing of CCTV and speaking to people, we believe the man jumped from the window of his flat on to the pavement causing his injuries.”

Brother-in-law Muzza Patel said: “We are currently grieving for our loss. The family is deeply upset and he is sadly missed.”

He said the police were investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Mr Patel’s sister, Tasneem Patel, spoke at their mother’s home in Cedar Street, Blackburn.

She said: “We have had a lot of people paying their respects and coming to the house to pray for my brother.”

Mr Patel was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where he was put on life-support. His family were notified, but he died.

Shiraj Vali, founder of the Shear Brow Community Association, said: “It’s tragic news. I feel very sorry for his parents.

“The community’s thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family at this tragic time.

“I has been a massive shock to the community.”

Sabbir Mohmed, vice-chairman of the association, was involved in the organisation of Mr Patel’s funeral, which was attended by more than 100 people.

He said: “My thoughts and deepest condolences go to the family. To lose a son of this age is a tragic loss.”

Coun Suleman Khonat, who represents the Shear Brow ward, said: “I am very concerned about this incident.

“I will be speaking to the police and I will request a meeting with the police.”

Why? There doesn't appear to be any issue of fould play, at least not in this report. It seems like a very tragic incident: leave the family to grieve instead of trying to score points.

Behind the scene, usually very different than what is meant to be believed in public life,
