foodies treat India Mill is having Heston, left to tea
CELEBRITY chef Heston Blumenthal is set to give people in Darwen a special treat when he comes to the town next month to film an episode of his new TV programme.
The chef, known for his unusual food creations, will be filming an episode which looks at reviving the traditional British tea break at the India Mill Centre.
The series to be shown on Channel 4, which has not yet been given a title, looks at bringing back the fun and nostalgia of favourite British foods.
A spokesman for Betty Television which is producing the show said: “In each episode, Heston will research one of our favourite eating experiences and put his unusual twist on them, making people take time out of their busy lives to come together as communities and rekindle their fond food memories.
“He plans to not only make these meal-times innovative and delicious, but to make them supersized too – to amaze and feed the masses.
“This programme looks at how the average working day runs and how tea break times are often lost in the busyness of our lives.
“We believe it’s an increasingly rare thing for colleagues to stop collectively and take a break together and we are exploring how traditions have changed.
“On an enormous magical scale, Heston will create a once-in-a-lifetime tea break experience, full of twists and surprises.
“We are coming to the India Mill Centre because of its historic and iconic importance within the local area and we are hoping to offer this opportunity to a variety of citizens within the area.
“We would like to hear from Darwen residents; what are your memories of the India Mill? Did you once work there when it was a textile and cotton factory? What are your memories of Darwen?
“We would also like to hear from people before the filming about whether you have a unique way of making your perfect cup of tea.
“This experience has many wonderful surprises which will remain a secret until the day but we can assure you it will be a tea break experience you will never forget.”
The filming date is hoped to be on Thursday, July 19, anyone wanting to take part should email Bella Lloyd on bella.lloyd@betty.co.uk
