Summer's a big washout in East Lancashire

EAST Lancashire is experiencing higher than average levels of rainfall, according to a local weather expert.

Roy Chetham, who collates data from his monitoring station at his home in Huncoat, said the past fortnight has already seen more than a full month’s average.

Rainfall in the first half of the month was 3.73 inches, already more than a full month's average.

Mr Chetham said temperatures were depressed with a daily mean so far of only 12.4, which is one of the coolest Junes on record.

The weather is expected to become more unsettled with heavy rain and winds on Thursday, with stormy weather forecast for the weekend.

My monitoring station (aka the washing line) tells me today's been a very nice hot, sunny day! I'd say that more than makes up for the rain so far!

C'mon LET - has it been a slow news day, or what?
1. We all live here so we know what the weather has been like and don't need it rubbing in.
2. How can summer be a wash out when it has not even officially started? The first day of summer is 21 June - so I can't see how you can call it a washout on 18 June.

My younger brother, ever the wit, sent me a photo showing of his car, up to the axles in flood water, while he was washing it down with an hose pipe. He asked me to guess what was wrong with the image and I failed miserably to spot that there was an hosepipe ban in effect.

Loving the latest LET poll on the front page "Do you think it will rain all summer ? Yes/No". Really valuable opinion poll. Coming next week - "Do you think the nights will start getting longer in July?".

Look at the national weather centre's predictions for the summer posted in March! They couldn't get it right for a few months in advance yet they subscribe to the view that in 50 years millions will die due to global warming and we need to stifle our economy with green taxes and build useless heavily subsidised windmills everywhere. You couldn't make it up!
