TWO young entrepreneurs are grabbing a pizza the action.

Chris and Amy Cheadle have swapped careers in web designing and marketing to become purveyors of the perfect dough.

The couple have launched their own business called The Northern Dough Co.

Hundreds of freshly-made dough balls are being rolled out of a bakery in Rossendale on their way to High Street shops from Glasgow to London.

And the couple are close to tying up a deal with Booths which operates a chain of stores in the north west, including Clitheroe.

Chris comes from a long line of bakers.

His dad Peter and uncle John, who are third generation bakers, run Rink Bakery in Stacksteads where the dough is made.

Chris, 30, who used to a manager for comparison website moneysupermarket. com, said: “Business is doing really well.

“We’ve gone from supplying just two shops to 28 retailers from Glasgow to London.

“We hope to employ more people in the future as it is important for businesses to offer jobs with the recession going on.”

The couple decided to start their own business soon after getting married last year on the same day as Prince William and Kate.

Chris said: “Our family supplied dough to local Italian restaurants and we used to take some home from the bakery to make pizzas when friends came round.

“We had pizza parties, which were really good fun and we all tried to outdo each other with different toppings.

“We thought we could turn it into a viable business. The UK does have pizza dough on the market but its very much like a pastry, and its a chilled product.

Ours is freshly made which makes its a better quality.

“Amy has a background in marketing and she understood how important is was to brand up a product.”

The company received national recognition when it won the chance to showcase its products at the BBC Good Food Show Winter.

Chris said: “Four months after we started we entered the BBC Good Food bursary award. They shortlisted 70 producers and we went down to the last six.

“After a quick growth, to get some national recognition for our product was fantastic.

“The possibilities are open at the moment. We’ve committed on making pizza dough more accessible.”
