A BEACON will light up the Burnley skyline to celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

It’s just one of many events planned for the borough to help make the landmark anniversary a right Royal occasion.

A total of 14 street parties have been registered through Burnley Council for next weekend.

Mayor of Burnley Coun Charles Bullas said: “The recent visit by Her Majesty The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales was a great honour for our town and I think it really kick-started the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

“A lot of people have put in a lot of effort to make sure Burnley marks this historic occasion in style and I hope that everyone taking part in Diamond Jubilee events has a wonderful time.”

One of the most high-profile events will be the lighting of a beacon near to the iconic Singing Ringing Tree public art installation at Crown Point, on the moors above Burnley.

The beacon will be built by council staff, working together with volunteers from Brunshaw Action Group at around 10.30pm on Monday June 4.

People are being advised that the lighting is not a public event and there will be no access to the beacon and Singing Ringing Tree for safety reasons.

However, the beacon will be visible for miles and from many points across the borough.
