JOHNSTON Street is one of those streets that suggests there must be some serious money to be made in takeaways.

In the space of a few hundred yards from the Montague Street end of Johnston Street there are takeaways galore.

You wonder just how they can make a living, especially as many of them are often sparsely populated whenever you pass — but, nonetheless, in that stretch of street there are curry houses, kebab shops, a chippy and an assortment of fried chicken spots.

There is also the intriguing Grillish Peri Peri Chicken and Ribs.

From the outside it seems like one of those fried chicken spots — but is actually miles better.

It’s a very clean shop with smart staff and speedy service.

My choice was a Grillish Wrap Meal, picked from menu that was obviously loaded towards chicken but also offered an intriguing but not essential choice of pizza.

My choice consisted of a grilled chicken wrap, fries and a tin of pop — and was just what was needed en route home.

The chicken wrap, complete with salad, was excellent and, while fries can never replace proper chips in the eyes of a northern lad, they were at least crisp and hot.

For £3.49 it was a deal.
