AN EAST Lancashire MP has pledged to continue ‘pushing’ for a new health centre.

Hyndburn’s MP says constituents had contacted him over concerns Great Harwood's new health centre had been ‘shelved’.

Graham Jones says his enquiries with the Department of Health and NHS North of England have enabled him to reassure residents that the plans are still on, and funding still in place.

He pledged that he would continue to apply pressure to ensure the scheme goes ahead, but that the scheme was part of NHS spending plans for this financial year. He said: “There was talk that the scheme for the new centre had been shelved for a second time.

"On behalf of Great Harwood residents I have written and spoken to the PCT regularly about the urgent need for a new health centre in the town.

“The current centre is overcrowded and cramped.

“So I am pleased to see that the capital reserve is still available and the possibility of a new health centre remains on the cards.

“I will continue to push for this much needed new health centre.”
