IN terms of architectural style, the Sun Dragon restaurant is never going to win any prizes.
“That strange-looking place opposite Winfields” is how it’s always been described to me.
But who cares? The food is great and they do a fantastic takeaway.
We shared a selection of appetisers and soups to kick things off. My hot and sour soup was a lively affair – packed with meat, vegetables and prawns and it delivered a fierce chilli kick.
The barbecue spare ribs were the best I have ever had – really meaty with a melt-in-the-mouth texture. There’s nothing worse than getting ribs with a two millimetre covering of meat.
The salt and pepper chicken wings were similarly well upholstered and packed a garlic and chilli hit. My nephew Liam demolished his crispy duck with gusto – and he has one of the fussiest palates around!
For mains, the special fried rice had something different to savour in every mouthful and was light without being too salty or greasy. The szechuan chicken was tangy and full of vegetables and the right amount of chilli.
I’ll reserve special word for the extremely friendly and smiley service – it’s nice to know
target="_blank">customer service is alive and well in this country.
The only downside was the fact the restaurant side of things was very quiet – it doesn’t deserve to be – it’s one of the best Chinese eateries around.
