FORMER indie-rock favourites the Milltown Brothers are set for a rare live appearance as several East Lancashire bands plan a nine-hour charity event later in the year.

The Songs From The Neighbourhood concert will take place at Colne Muni on Sunday, November 4, from 2pm until 11pm.

The concert is in aid of Pendleside Hospice and Derian House Childrens Hospice in Chorley.

Headlining the event will be the Colne-based Milltown Brothers, who will be joined by other bands from the Pendle and Burnley areas including Hate Syndicate, The Rubbish, Half Angels, Big Picture and Supernova.

Poetry and comedy acts confirmed are Micky P Kerr and Mike Garry and acoustic music will be provided by Roger Westbrook, John Hollins and Lewis Nelson.

Youth song and dance will also be a theme of the day, the with the Sanderson Dance Studio performing.

The Milltown Brothers, known for their passionate support of Burnley FC, received critical and chart success in the early 1990s.

Their first release, the Coming From The Mill EP, became single of the week in the NME magazine.

Their second single was Which Way Should I Jump? which released after the band signed to A&M Records worldwide. It climbed to number 38 in the UK singles chart and reached number 10 in the USA Billboard Modern Rock chart.

The band, which includes brothers Matt and Simon Nelson, have recorded three albums but have only appeared live sporadically in recent years, the last time being in 2009.
