THE buildings at a Rawtenstall primary school are to be expanded to cater for more pupils.

The admission number at Rawtenstall St Anne's Church of England Primary School was expanded to 30 last year and it is now planned to increase the buildings to cater for the extra pupils.

A consultation on the plans revealed that 55 of the 61 people who responded backed the plans.

Of the six that objected, three raised concerns about the increased admission number, which has already been approved, and the other three about the impact it would have on other schools in the area.

In a letter covering the plans, Stephen Cook, headteacher, said: “Over the last five years St Anne’s has been oversubscribed with an increasing number of children being admitted by appeals panels each year.

“After following a very detailed programme of expansion set out by the governing body; what was once a mixed age class school is now a school that only has one mixed age class.”
