TWO cars were involved in a head-on collision in Ormerod Road in Burnley last night.
Firefighters, paramedics and police officers were called to the scene around 9.20pm.
Watch manager Neil Ashworth said a woman was trapped in a Vauxhall Astra, which had been in collision with a Mazda MX5, containing two young men.
He said: “A female was trapped in the Vauxhall suffering from suspected back injuries and slight cuts and bruises, so to move her safely we cut away part of the steering wheel.
“Fortunately the roof was a soft top so that came off and we assisted the paramedics to remove her on a long board.
“She was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.”
Mr Ashworth said the driver of the Mazda was “okay” but that the passenger was suffering from shock, slight cuts and bruises.
He added: “We gave him first aid until the ambulance arrived and we believe he was taken to hospital for a check-up.”
Police are investigating the incident. Officers closed the road following the crash which took place near to the bridge in Omerod Road.
It was reopened after the scene was made safe by fire crews and the road was cleared of debris.
