A MAN has died in hospital this afternoon after he fell from a bridge onto a motorway earlier today.

Police were called to junction one of the M65 after reports that a man was lying in the eastbound carriageway at around 10am.

Witnesses said that the man had fallen from the A6 near Bamber Bridge. He had not been struck by any vehicles.

The motorway was closed at junction one for around 20 minutes.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Royal Preston Hospital in an ambulance.

Police confirmed at 2.30pm that the man, who has not been named, had died in hospital from his injuries.
