A 12-year-old Blackburn schoolboy was found hanged at his home in Burnley yesterday.

Police said Michael Raven, a pupil at St Wilfrid’s C of E Academy, was discovered in his bedroom.

The North West Ambulance Service and Lancashire O Police were called to his home just after 5.20pm.

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Blackburn Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said the cause of his death has not yet been confirmed but it is not being treated as suspicious.

The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place later this week.

Tonight specially trained family liaison officers were supporting Michael’s family.

Police said his parents were too ‘distraught’ and upset to speak or release a tribute to Michael.

A police spokeswoman said: “The ambulance service and police were called to an address in Burnley just after 5.20pm on Monday after a 12-year-old boy was found hanging in his bedroom.

“The cause of this sudden death has not yet been confirmed but it is not being treated as suspicious.”
