PLANS to redevelop part of Burnley’s Charter Walk shopping centre are set to be submitted in the next two weeks.

Bosses at Addington Capital, the property investment and asset management company which now owns the centre, last month unveiled plans to refurbish the Market Square area and double the size of some of the units.

The centre has also been handed a boost with three new tenants moving in in the past month.

Gift shop retailer Past Times has taken on the former Paperbox unit, providing a range of nostalgic gifts.

Duffer Menswear has taken over a ten-year lease on one unit in the centre, relocating from a smaller unit on St James’s Street.

The management team at Charter Walk are now in advanced discussions with another tenant to take on the former Duffer unit.

Those two new units join the Clarets Store, which opened last month.

Alex Wagstaff, partner at Addington Capital, said: “We are delighted to have secured all these new lettings at Charter Walk.

“The upsize of Duffer Menswear reflects the store’s strong sales performance in the town.

“We are delighted to welcome the new Clarets Club Shop to the shopping centre as part of our on-going partnership with the football club.”

The redevelopment plans would involve the removal of the external first floor walkways and staircases to create double-height units ranging in size from 5,000 sq ft to 10,000 sq ft each.

The square itself will also be redeveloped to improve landscaping and the cafe building will be removed and replaced with a new glazed cafe pod structure.
