• The Walsh Two Lads Fell Race will be held tonight at 7.30pm. Race distance is 5.25 miles with 900 feet of ascent. Registration is on the night at the Bridge Inn, Church Street, Horwich BL6 7BR.
  • The Great Hill Race sponsored by Tony Bolton Sports is on Saturday at 3pm from Brinscall Fete Field. Race distance is 5.75 miles with 1,300 feet of ascent.
  • The Darren Jones Clougha Pike Fell Race on Saturday incorporates the third round of the English Junior Fell Championships. The venue is Quernmore village crossroads near Lancaster.

    The U8s and U10s open the programme at 1pm, the U12s, U14s and U16s follow at 1.30pm while the U18s run with the seniors at 3pm on a course of five miles with 1,250 feet climbing.

  • The White Bear Way is one of those long distance walks where runners are also welcome. Organised by Adlington Scout Group, it takes place on Saturday from the Scout HQ at Grove Crescent, Adlington.

    It follows a circular route over farmland and valleys of South Lancashire, through woodland and over the high moors of the West Pennines.

    Walkers for the 21-mile route start at 8.30am, and for the 10 miles start at 9am, while all runners begin at 9.30am.

  • The McCains Young Athletes Track and Field League draws to a close on Sunday with Premier League Blackburn Harriers at Crewe, while First Division Pendle travel to Halifax. Hyndburn and Ribble Valley, both in the Second Division, will be at Stockport.
  • The Hendon Brook 13.5 Mile Road Race is the longest and probably the hardest race in the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix. It is on Sunday at 11am from Marsden Park Golf Course, Nelson BB9 8DG.
  • The Horwich Festival of Racing, formerly known as the Horwich Carnival, takes place on Sunday.

    Nowadays it is a one day only event in Horwich town centre that includes cycling, street orienteering and running.

    For the runners, the feature event is the Emerson British Masters 5K Championships – although it is too late to enter this one. For non-veterans, there is the Blue Mantle 5K Road Race as well as a one mile fun run.

  • The Settle Hills Fell Race is on Sunday at 1pm from North Ribblesdale RUFC, Settle. Race distance is seven miles incorporating 1,300 feet of climb.
  • The Clayton-le-Moors Harriers Summer Series, which is for their members only, starts on Tuesday with the Worsthone Trail Race from Worsthorne Village Square at 7pm.
  • The second of the Harrock Hill Races is on Wednesday at 7.30pm from the Farmers Arms at Bispham Green near Parbold. Race distance is 5.2 miles including 900 feet of climb.

    With three results from four to count towards the series, it is not too late to start your 2011 campaign.

  • The Aggies Staircase is the first of Darwen Dashers’ three summer fell races.

    It is on Thursday, June 23 at 7.15pm from Punstock Road, Darwen.

    Race distance is four miles with 1,150 feet of climb and you will be able to enter on the night at the White Lion.

  • style="list-style: none">The other races in the series are the Tockholes Race on Saturday, July 2 at 2.30pm and the Darwen Gala Race on Saturday, August 21.
