POLICE in Darwen are warning they will take a tough stance on anyone found riding a mini-moto illegally.

It comes after officers received several reports about the vehicles in the Manor Road area, which leads to Darwen tower.

A mini-moto must be DVLA registered, road taxed and have a valid MoT to be ridden on the road and would also need a number plate with lights.

The rider must also be 17 or over, hold a valid licence, wear a helmet and have necessary insurance.

If these conditions are not met, the mini-moto can only be ridden on privat-ely owned land with the owner’s permission.

PC Steve Jeffrey said: “Anyone caught riding a mini-moto illegally could see the bike seized and be faced with a substantial recovery fee.”
