Blessed Trinity College is celebrating more success after adding two more Lancashire Cup titles to its growing collection.

The Burnley school has been a dominant force in county cup football in recent years – and has lifted the silverware no few than seven times since the college began in 2006.

Both the school’s Year Eight and Year Nine teams were victorious in their respective knockout competitions – each of which started with 80 teams in the preliminary rounds.

Team manager Mr Macmahon was impressed by the attitude of the pupils.

He said: “The boys not only put in outstanding perfo-rmances, but they conducted them-selves well throu-ghout a long season.

“All the boys played with passion and pride, and were wonder-ful ambassadors for Blessed Trin-ity College.”

The Year Nine team had it all their own way in the final, defeat-ing All Hallows School from Penwortham 4-0.

Goals from Jack Suddall, Liam Cole, Ben Beardsall and Ben Ennis capped off an excellent performance.

The Year Eight team came through a more tense encounter, with the Burnley school needing two extra-time goals to defeart Our Lady’s from Lancaster 5-3.

The result followed a tough route to lifting the under 13s trophy which included a last minute winner in the quarter-final as well as scoring in extra-time in the semi-final against Ribblesdale.

The team also defeated Darwen Vale, Haslingden, St. Augustine’s and Fearns on their road to glory.

Headteacher Miss Bleasdale was proud of the team’s success. She said: “This is a marvellous acheivement for our college.

“It underlines the hard work and efforts of our pupils and staff to accomplish a very rare thing, winning two Lancashire Cups in one season.”
