Police will continue to question the 28-year-old, from Whitefield, near Bury, after she was tracked down last night.
Teams of trackers scoured the Rochdale Road area, near Bleakholt animal sanctuary and the Owd Betts pub, after a woman rang a helpline and told them she had given birth and left the baby in a field in the area.
The initial call was made around 10.30pm on Tuesday.
Later a green Wilkinson’s bag and a white knitted blanket smeared with blood was found close by.
Sniffer dogs and Rossendale and Pendle mountain rescue team joined police in the hunt for the baby, who has still not been found.
