ENGLISH Defence League members gathered outside a Blackburn Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant this afternoon.

Police said up to 30 people from the right wing group were protesting over the serving of Halal meat at the KFC takeaway in Haslingden Road.

Officers said the protest was a peaceful demonstration.

Inspector Gary Crow said: "We've got a couple of officers up there now and it's all been reasonably well behaved.

"It's something we've been routinely dealing with over the last few weeks and months.

"We've been in constant contact with the KFC staff, who are aware about what is going on and are comfortable with it, and we've talked with EDL organisers who have been compliant and helpful.

"They are within the boundaries of their right to have a peaceful protest, but we know what those boundaries are, and if they step beyond them we will take action."
