A GRIEVING father feels he has been let down by Darwen’s MP in his seven-year fight for justice for his daughter.

Paul Houston, 41, of Argyle Street, Darwen said Jake Berry has broken promises made to him over an appeal to deport illegal immigrant Aso Mohammed Ibrahim, who left his daughter, 12-year-old Amy, dying under the wheels of his car in November 2003.

Mr Houston confronted Mr Berry at the MPs' surgery in Darwen Leisure Centre on Saturday morning.

Mr Berry told him he would support him.

Ibrahim, an Iraqi, is currently waiting to discover whether he will be allowed to stay in this country by an immigrant appeal judge on the grounds that he has children in this country.

At the time of the crash, Ibrahim was driving without insurance or a licence.

Mr Houston, an engineer, said: “I’ve not had the level of support I think I should have got from my MP.

“I went to see him before the elections and shortly after he won, and what he said was all very promising.

“He said we’d go down to London to speak to ministers face-to-face and hammer something out, but it’s never happened.

“He said he’d come to the tribunal in Manchester and support me, but he didn’t show up, and neither did his advisor, who said he’d come instead.

“His advisor left me a message saying Mr Berry didn’t want to get involved in a ‘media circus’, but neither do I.

“But if I’m sticking my head on the block, shouting at senior immigration judges, then I feel I deserve some support from my MP.

"I’m standing up and doing my part, surely that’s what the Conservative’s Big Society idea is all about?”

During the surgery MP Jake Berry apologised that niether he or a representative attended the hearing earlier this month.

MP Berry said:“I know you are fustrated and I will with Jack Straw apply to Westminister hall for a debate.

"But due to sub judice, while the courtcase is ongoing there is little I can do.

“If we work together I can help you ”
