North West MEP's home targeted by far-right extremists

BOMBARDED: Sajjad Karim BOMBARDED: Sajjad Karim

A CONSERVATIVE North West Euro MP has hired a private security firm to guard his home because of threats from far-right extremists.

Sajjad Karim has been bombarded with offensive emails, which the Lancashire Telegraph has seen, over his stance on halal and kosher meat.

And his home in Simonstone in the Ribble Valley has also had ‘BNP’ daubed on it in graffiti.

He said he was worried about the safety of his wife and two children, aged eight and 10, while he is away in Europe.

And he said he has paid for a private security firm to watch over his house 24 hours a day.

Lancashire Police said it was investigating the messages and would meet the MEP this week.

Police are investigating an allegation of racist abuse by email.

Mr Karim, who represents the North West in the European Parliament, blamed BNP supporters for the onslaught, claiming the threats had come shortly after the far-right party published an article criticising him on its website.

Mr Karim, who opposed an EU proposal that would require all ritually-slaughtered meat to be labelled, said there had been an ‘orchestrated’ campaign against him.

He said: “There are perfectly legitimate arguments on both sides of the debate.

"But it is being hijacked and they are trying to frighten me.

“We have lived here for 11 years and never had anything like this.

"This is their way of saying ‘we know you are here’.

“The police are providing the best level of protection they can, but when it comes to these people I am not going to take any chances.”

A British National Party spokesman ‘utterly condemned’ any threats.

John Walker, the spokesman, said the party was campaigning on the issue of ritually slaughtered meat, which he said was ‘barbaric’.

But he distanced the party from any threats, saying the BNP was being ‘demonised’.

He added: “This is a common tactic of political opponents to claim they have been intimidated.”

This should not happen, but really the actual argument about halal food being labelled is correct.

They need to label something that 'may contain nuts' so why not this

I hope they don't start labelling all meat, "May contain halal". :-)

Buy a box of chicken and you will find out that it will contain the words Halal meat if it is. Who cares meat is meat at the end of the day. The only time you dont eat meat like my Grandad used to tell me was when non was available like during the war years and after. THere was a simple solution breed your own thats why he bred rabbits and in them days knecked them himself.

The only people who complain about the loss of freedom of speech tend to be ones you wish had kept quiet in the first place.

easy to blame the BNP isnt it, has nothing to do with the far right party its about animal welfare and that barbaric prehistoric practice of killing animals in the inhumane way of letting them bleed to death while still concious the sooner this is banned in this so called civilised country the better.

Maybe the perpetrators are neither far right politicos NOR animal rights activists. Maybe they are normal people who are just hacked off with the gravy train that is ' the EU ', and in particular this chap, who seems to me not to have a Lancashire name, raking in the dosh ! Remind me, how much is this guy getting paid ? Maybe it's because you're a rich prat, pal. Just put it down to that and stop playing the race card. My heart bleeds..............

Now he know what it is like for someone like Nick Griffin who puts his life on the line every day for something he is truly concerned about (the future of the UK and its indigenous people) and who also has to employ minders.
Before Mr Karim, starts slinging accusations around in the press, he should provide some evidence.
Absolutely anyone could have made these threats to stir things up and the British National Party leaves such tactics to its enemies like the hammer-wielding thugs in the UAF - backed by Cameron and Hain.
As an animal lover and Veggie, I believe Halal butchery is cruel and barbaric and should be banned, never mind labelled as such. It has no place in modern Western society.
Lastly, credit to the LT for allowing comment on this story, unlike one of its sister papers, it would seem.

Oh putters, Mr Karim must be taken aback by your sympathy
I know he's a blody tory, but such kind words for his well-being
He must be thinking what am I doing representing this lot as an MP
You seem to forget he has wife and kids who may be vulnerable
You blody heartless bigots
Doesn't that take precedence over chickens
You talk about Griffin putting his neck on the line
That chicken was 'stunned' in the election so as leader he had to resign

No doubt we will learn that a UAF/SWP thug is responsible for daubing the house with BNP. Or maybe even a certain Mr Karrim perhaps? A few years ago a Muslim down south staggered into a police station and claimed to have been kidnapped by the BNP, taken to woods and beaten up due to his support for yet another Mosque. All the media carried this nonsense, but, strangely, didn't feel it needed to report that the guy was a liar as he was sent to prison.
As for 'Georgie' boy, Nick Griffin tells it as it really is. We didn't ask to be colonised by third world spongers, the traitors in the LibLabCon parties conned our people into accepting millions of you, sorry pal, but we have had it up to here. God Bless Nick Griffin.
