Excited crowds cheered as Diana appeared on stage outside Blackburn Town hall.
The X Factor star, who became the first East Lancashire solo artist to reach number one in the singles chart earlier this year, told the audience: “It’s amazing to be home.”
The former Westholme School student was treated to a sing song from six 'superfans' who were chosen from the audience.
Before hitting the switch with Deputy Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Coun Karimeh Foster, she wished everyone Merry Christmas then had a boogie with santa on stage.
As well as hosts Graeme and Jude from Rock FM’s breakfast show, the crowds were also entertained by Blackburn Dance Troupe, rockers Boomin, Sally Jaxx and comedian Lewis Costello.
Due to a reduced budget of £13,000 from £20,000, the switch-on did not have its traditional fireworks, but the audience still lapped up the fun.
Emma Walsh, 16, from the Infirmary area of Blackburn, said: “It was good and gets you into the spirit. It’s quite exciting that Diana came.”
Ian Crabtree, 40, from Blackburn said: “It was brilliant, and it was brilliant that Diana came down.”
However, some fans said they were disappointed she did not perform a song.
