A 25-year-old man will appear before magistrates this morning after he was charged with the hit-and-run death of a Blackburn grandmother.
Salim Chand, of Iddersleigh Road, Preston, was charged overnight with causing death by dangerous driving, peverting the course of justice, using a motor vehicle without insurance, and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
Freda Holt, 70, had just stepped into Revidge Road, Blackburn, on her way to local shops when she was struck by a Mercedes saloon being driven ‘at speed’ on Monday.
She was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where she died.
The devout Catholic and former yoga instructor, had lived with her husband Raymond in Revidge Road for more than 25 years, and leaves three children and six grandchildren.
A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice has been release on police bail until November 15.
