A HEALTH club that recently opened in Blackburn town centre is operating as a ‘swingers’ venue, the Lancashire Telegraph can reveal.
The move by Heaven On Earth, which is a ‘stone’s throw’ from Blackburn Cathedral in St Peter’s Street, has been strongly criticised by community leaders as sending out the 'wrong message about the town'.
And a church leader added that he was ‘saddened’ by its arrival.
The club was initially advertised as a mixed steam room, sauna and jacuzzi but has now added ‘swingers’ club and swingers parties’ to its website.
It also describes itself on the site as a ‘brand new swingers’ club based in Blackburn’.
Swinging, whereby couples swap sexual partners, is not illegal, and the council confirmed the club did not need a specialist licence.
Heaven on Earth offers entry prices for single men and couples, while single women get in for free at all times.
Comments posted on the website include ‘met nice couple from Blackpool and enjoyed a great couple of hours there’ and ‘this would be my first time at a club . . . and was wondering if anyone would be up for holding my hand and maybe more'.
Mr Dhirubhai Patel, who said he was the spokesman for the business, said it opened as a health club first before moving into the swingers market.
He said: “People can come for the first time to see, but we want people to join as members.
It’s better for us and they get special offers.
“We don’t get involved in what they do. We are just trying out best to run a business.
“The members of the club know what to expect. What they do and what they don’t do is not my problem.”
He added: “People can come for the first time to see, but we want people to join as members, it’s better for us and they get special offers.
“We don’t allow large groups of lads or people coming from the pubs or clubs and there’s no entry after 11pm. We close at midnight.
So far we’ve only had good comments. People who come here say they have seen us on swinging websites such as Swinging Heaven.
“People tell us it’s one of the best they've come to. We don’t offer any services, just the facilities, which we’ve spent a lot of money on.”
The club opened in June, but the spokesman said: “The opening was long before we decided to do this swinging thing.”
Council leader Kate Hollern said: “I am surprised there’s a market for this in Blackburn. I don’t think it sends out the right message for the town at all —- it’s not very tasteful.
“It’s only a stone’s throw from the cathedral. I don’t think it’s appropriate.”
Lancashire Telegraph columnist the Rev Kevin Logan, who was the Vicar of Christ Church in Accrington before retiring, said: “My first reaction is one of sadness that such a wonderful gift should be abused by men and women in this way.
“It ruins, rather than rebuilds, relationships.”
The area is a key target in council bosses’ regener-ation plans — a ‘masterplan’ has already been drawn up for the Freckleton Street area which would see offices and houses built as part of the town hall’s ‘knowledge zone’ scheme.
This is dependent on getting permission to build a link road to connect to the £15million Wainwright Bridge, although a number of local businesses have already been purchased.
Phil Ainsworth, of Blackburn Town Centre Partner-ship, said: “It’s within the town centre core, and people walk past it on a regular basis.
“With the new shopping centre, we are trying to encourage more families into the town, and bus-inesses like this opening up make that awkward.
It sets the regeneration of Blackburn back.”
Cohesion worker Anjum Anwar, who is based at Blackburn Cathedral, said: “Why does the council allow things like this to happen?
“Don’t we have enough problems without these kinds of places? The Cathedral is a wonderful building, and the people of Blackburn will need to decide what sorts of institutions they want in their town.”
Chris Allen, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s licensing chief, confirmed Heaven on Earth was licensed to sell alcohol, but this was not currently being used because no premises supervisor had been put in place.
It is also licensed to show films.
Town centre police sergeant Dave Clarke said: “There’s nothing illegal in what they are doing. It has been subject to licensing visits to make sure they are adhering to their licensing conditions and have had no complaints.”

Oh what a bunch of prudes, at the thought of sex they scream like a cartoon elephant in a tutu at a mouse.
Maybe the location is a bit risque but it will save the church-goers a long drive to get serviced after service.
Ha! ha! could not resist that. Sorry.
One Issue that I must raise is the owner saying that what goes on is not his business, it is! So very much! How big a success or failure and most important public opinion is alone his responsibility.
Loosen up guys and gals, after all it's only sex.

I wonder what the religious leaders in the Muslim community think about Mr Dhirubhai Patel running this kind of establishment? Is he upheld as a pillar of the community? Maybe LT could interview a few people to get an all round perspective. This comment is not meant to be provocative but I would like to hear views from all sides.

Madari: group of nomadic Rajasthani snake charmers, living in rural Gujarat, northwest India. The Madari live in tents on the edge of town, in an enclave known as Vadipara, or "snake charmers' alley." Despite the abolition of the caste system after the establishment of the Republic of India in 1947, the snake charmers remain on the fringes of Hindu society; they belong to the "Madari Varna", a sub-caste of the Untouchable caste. They are believed to be the offspring of Rajput father and Muslim mother. Their verbal interaction takes place in Gujarati and Hindi language. This tribal populace can be examined with a visit to Gujarat and the tribal villages in Assam. The Madari tribal folk are skillful in trapping the snakes, monkeys and Sloth bear, which help them organize some local programmes and earn a few penny. While many of them fill their breadbasket with snake-charming and jugglery, some of them deals in selling indigenous medicinal herbs. This 'Desi Jari Butiwala', sometimes, moves from place to place with their trapped animals, entertain people and also sell the herbal medicines.
The Madari tribe do not observe regular rites and rituals. The only celebration takes place during after the marriage ceremony and after the birth of the child. The festive mood jazzed with the a grand feast and with the local drinks, offered to the panch(council of caste leaders) members during the occasion. An interesting fact lies in their diet type that this tribes have strong affinity towards non-vegetarian cuisines but strictly restrict themselves to vegetarian food-staff during their merriment.
Madaris are in between the Hindu and Muslim religion. The rituals following the birth and life highlights the influence of Hindu culture, while the rites after the dead gets merged with rules as per the Muslim religion. The dead are buried in the earth and a stretching observance of 12 days ends up with the arrangement of community feast.
Wow religion, race and sex issues in the same sentence.
Whole soap-operas have been fueled by this recipe, gonna watch this space, just getting the popcorn I will be back in a minute.

The only complaint the council has is they cant make any money from a licence fee.
It never seems to amaze me, how so called leaders of the community seem to take it upon themselves to be offended on our behalf. I hope this club is a great succes. at the moment sex seems to be the one thing they cant tax yet.
How did the LET reporter know what was written in the comments book? Did the reporter have to pay an entrance fee? was this claimable on expenses? does this reporter have a floating duck house. this investigation could go a long way.

What problems is Anjum talking about as there are no criminal complaints mentioned in the article. Also, If an Asian, opening a swingers club, is not a sign of cohesion; what is? Is it only cohesion if God is involved?
As for being a stones throw away. You'd need either Kate Hollerns chunky man arms or a trebuchet to throw a stone from the club on to the cathedral grounds.
Welcome to the real world worshipers. Don't agree men have to pay though and women are free (discrimination). Seems to me the men will be paying again once they are in. Just wondering what sort of single women enter the premises? Added bonus at least the women should be safe in there, and off the streets.

I think that's what they are all worried about - This over use of the One Eyed Snake. Any truth in the rumour you get better and easier access wearing a Nihab?
I thought only Dingles were intrested in that sort of stuff, especially the ones who dont work;-)
It's not quite up to reporting of the 'News of the World' standard.
Nowhere does it say " our reporter declined the services offered to him and politely left"
Or will this be a new section in the telegraph.... " reviews of local sex clubs - marks out of 10 "

You don't see anything wrong with this business??? You are just so naiive it's untrue. I'll try and explain though so airy fairy people like you might, just might, understand:
Me and my wife have spoken about swinging for some time but never really had the gumption to see it through. It was my birthday last week though, and since I'd found out about this place just opening I asked my wife if she'd like to give it a go as a special "birthday" treat. She declined but suggested that I might want to just go along for myself.
So last Wednesday I went along for their "happy hour" swinging session. I duly threw my keys into the middle eagerly awaiting to see who I'd end up with. Well imagine my disappointment when I ended up with Mr Dhirubhai Patel the proprietor! Just take a look at him in the picture if you dare (and then imagine him in a state of undress like I had to experience!)
Honestly, disappointment just simply isn't a strong enough word to describe how I felt. I definitely wouldn't have stayed for the full hour had I not paid upfront!
The place can't be closed down fast enough as far as I'm concerned.

Kate - did you do any research before making this comment, it shows a suprising lack of knowledge. A quick search on one free UK swingers site found there are currently 261 active pofiles wih a BD (Bradford) postcode alone, and that's restricting the search to only couples and single females, there are far more male profiles and of course others within easy travelling distance of Bradford. Even our own free UK swingers site swapscene.com which has only been online a few weeks already has members from Bradford area.
The fact is on average roughy 1 in 75 couples in the UK are swingers
—- it’s not very tasteful.
A very bold statement - Can I ask, if something is not to your taste does that automatically mean it is not to others tastes? Whatever happened to 'one man's meat' so to speak....
I also notice that Bradford has a good selection of gay clubs. Is the existence of these establishments also offensive to you?
I mean, is it OK for promiscuous homosexuals to have suitable venues to meet and have fun, but equally NOT ok for promiscuous heterosexuals, which of course is what many swingers are
Lancashire Telegraph columnist the Rev Kevin Logan, who was the Vicar of Christ Church in Accrington before retiring, said: “My first reaction is one of sadness that such a wonderful gift should be abused by men and women in this way.
Really. Is having sex with people a misuse of sex? Apart from for procreation sex also has a recreational side, and surely we should rejoice in that?
“It ruins, rather than rebuilds, relationships.”
Are you sure of that? In our opinion swinging is not for everyone and we wouldn't recommend it as a way to rebuild damaged relationships, but may we suggest that as a way of enhancing existing good relationships you could find a lot worse things than swinging. We are oursleves swingers - we have been swinging for around 4 years and in that time have met and had sex with well over a hundred couples. Please don't ask how many, we didn't know we were supposed to keep count. Prior to swinging we were faithfully monogamous for 20 odd years. So we ahve done both sides of this. We still consider ourselves to be 'emotionally monogamous' we just like to have sex with lots of other people, often with several of them at once and have made some wonderful friends. Many of these are people like us who have been married for 20 or more years and are very happy - some have even been swinging for 20 years. So can I put the notion to you, that at least for some people, swinging is a perfectly valid and enjoyable lifestyle that actually enenhances their relationship together. After all I can tell you now, although it's not totally unheard of, swingers very rarely have 'affairs' with other people and decieve their partner or others!!
Also reading the above article, it's quite clear that a lot of vanillas (oh that's a common swinging term for non swinging folk) have a very strange idea of what swinging is about. To put the record straight most swingers are not 'wife swappers' in the commonly understood sense. OK straight swapping of partners does occur but the reason that most couples swing, and go to this sort of club, is to enjoy a shared group sex experience, so it is all about having sex with other people and often your own partner at the same time - in threesomes foursomes and moresomes. We don't swing to replace the sex we normally have with our own partner, but to enhance it and enjoy a different kind of sex that needs far more participants than two. To coin a new phrase 'It takes four to tango!' Also and I must add this as it is important, in the majority of cases, swinging couples contain at least one partner who is bisexual, and they swing as an outlet for that side of their sexuality.
I hope to have enlightened a few people here about this topic a little. Swinging is a wonderful lifestyle if it suits your mindset, so please don't anyone be disgusted at us any more than you would be at other alternative lifestyles such as gay or lesbian, and please please don't feel sorry for us, we are having loads of fun thanks

Nice one swapscene, I think you've done a commendable job in explaining the swinging scene to people in such an honest way, and I don't see how anyone could rationally argue against the points you make (without resorting to silly religious objections for example).
You're obviously enjoying yourself and are doing absolutely no harm to anyone, so live and let live I say - everyone just likes different things. I've tried swinging (as you can read above), but the experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth, so I won't be trying it again.

So what if it's near the Cathedral...
Open air sh@gging, smack heads, glue sniffers, alcoholics, gangs of chavs, drunken people throwing up... the cathedral grounds have it all!

We live in a free country, which has freedom of choice. To partake or not to partake in whatever we like. Swinging is completly normal and this offers people the chance to live out their fantasies in a safe envioriment.
Swinging is completly normal across the animal kingdom, and we are all "gods creatures".

You know what, I think I’m more concerned about all the hostels, drop-ins, rehabs, shelters and bail doss houses that keep being allowed into the area... I'm even more concerned about the "message" that all the craphole estates and drugs dens are sending out too, not to mention the actual crime they all cause.

Could someone also have a word with my neighbours as I think they might be doing "unsavoury" things in private too...

I'm even more concerned about the "message" that all the craphole estates and drugs dens are sending out too, not to mention the actual crime they all cause.
A swingers club... Oh No! Consensual adults engaging in perfectly legal activates indoors where I can't see them and wouldn't ever even see beyond the front door of...AAAHHHH! RRUUUUNNNN!!!!! Could someone also have a word with my neighbours as I think they might be doing "unsavoury" things in private too...
Can we have one in Bacup with free admission?
I don't go to church and am not religious so I wouldn't be a hippocrite.
Now theres a rare situation!

What’s Blackburn famous for?

As someone who frequents this club on a regular basis I would recommend it to anyone who is after a little spice to their sex life in safe and comfortable surroundings. Those that oppose it frankly must have poor sex lives to the extent that they wish to enforce their frigid behaviour on the rest of us. I have a particular penchant for chubby hairy ladies & will regularly meet up with a friend to enjoy the facilities with her. My wife comes with me and likes to watch. If it is not offending anyone what is the problem. I haven't come across any weirdos and before anyone asks I am not a saddo but am in fact a GP. This club is popular with the swinger circuit and long may it prosper. As for the complaint about it being close to the cathedral - firstly, they should spend more time dealing with the activities that take place in their grounds, secondly just when was having sex an offence of the church and thirdly, would they prefer it if swingers met in their neighbours house as opposed to a town centre location? We don't push anything in anyones faces but unfortunately as a result of this article from the holier than though Telegraph we will no doubt attract some undesirables.

My wife and I regularly attend this club since it opened. We used to attend swinger sessions at a friends house in Darwen or host parties at our house. This club allows us to enjoy our passion with others in safe surroundings - what is wrong with that? We are both in our 60s & meet couples older than ourselves so it certainly isn't full of gangs of young lads.

Did the Hare and Hounds in Lammack not have a swinging/wife swap reputation in the 70s?

Phil Ainsworth, of Blackburn Town Centre Partnership, said: “It’s within the town centre core, and people walk past it on a regular basis.
“With the new shopping centre, we are trying to encourage more families into the town, and businesses like this opening up make that awkward.
It sets the regeneration of Blackburn back.”
.
Phil......Live and let live I say. I'd rather have this sort of establishment than places that attract the local scumbags such as bars open until all hours

Phil Ainsworth - why don't you spend your efforts trying to closing down all the illegal shisa bars that are on Darwen Street, and closer to the cathedral and the new shopping centre

I know it's of topic but who can remember what the building was used for before it was transformed into the "Getta" all those years ago ?

Oasis Div/Tetley Dribbler; the Dame Judy from your lying hypocrisy is nauseatingly offensive.
You've got three choices here;
A) Apologise for saying I don't have a job when I've never claimed one single day's unemployment in my life yet you posted this at 1:13 PM and seem to have the leisure time to spend most of the day on here.
B) Arrange a meet at some time over the next two days and you can say this to my face.
C) Slither back under the stone you crawled from under and ignore what I just wrote.
Let's see your cards. We're waiting. My money's on your cowardice.

True story. A few years ago in a different job I used to stay in a hotel that was situated in the red light district of a city. As I used to stay there quite a lot they used to, more often than not, give me the same room which although had reasonable view also looked over the back of a sex shop which had the sign up "rear entry".

So forthright, Chris P! You may consider joining me and a few others in using your given name here. We few have a great swinging scene and welcome contact with like-minded others.

If people can seek out others for consentual, like minded fun whats the problem? seems far safer for the participants and wider society to have facilities such as this.

It's the sex equivalent of a race track or gun range.

Think about it!

So what if it's near the Cathedral... Open air sh@gging, smack heads, glue sniffers, alcoholics, gangs of chavs, drunken people throwing up... the cathedral grounds have it all!
Exactly what I was thinking.
They need to sort that outbefore worrying about things that happen behind closed doors!

An open and above business like this will attract more to Blackburn than some may think.
If it removes the criminality [and disease] aspect form the activities, it cant be totally bad.

i'm not into that kind of thing but as for your comments on me being forthright, you'll notice the Snitch (AKA Tetely Dribbler and Oasis Loser) went running to Miss to get the post pulled. I told you on here that he would show up as a coward, didn't I? There was no way he'd ever have the cajones to say to my face what he lied about on here so he did what all cowardly nervous wrecks do; tell tales out of school. The wimpy gimp.

Isn't a place where people 'arrange' to have sex with willing strangers usually called a brothel.?
Heaven on Earth is in practice a brothel.

This is disgusting!
Swings should be kept outside and not in a building.
If people want to swing then they should go to the park and not to a swinging club :)
I doubt that there is enough room to peg up in that building.
And you have to be careful otherwise you may fall off the swing into the soup.
RODLMAO.
