TWO youngsters are donning their running shoes in the Great North Run for a terminally-ill toddler from Huncoat.
Brothers eleven-year-old Ashley and Ellis Greaves, eight, will be raising money for three-year-old Tess Sullivan who is one of 50 infants worldwide to have Alexander’s disease, a genetic degenerative disorder.
The pair want to raise cash to help Tess’s parents Helen and Steve, of Bluebell Way, Huncoat, to take her and their sons, Tyler, 12, and Max, 17 months, to Lapland this Christmas on a dream trip.
Tess has already undergone surgery to remove parts of her skull after being diagnosed with pressure to the brain.
As the illness progresses she will lose her mobility, eyesight and the ability to chew and swallow. There is currently no cure for the disease.
Their mother Stacey Hartley, who lives with their step-dad Simon Kelly in Blackburn, a childhood friend of Helen Sullivan, said: “I am very proud of them. They are so kind and want to make sure that Tess and her family are able to fulfill their dream.”
The boys, who are taking part in the Bupa Junior and Mini Great North Run in Newcastle on September 18, have already raised more than £150 for Tess during a car boot sale last Sunday.
