A FIREFIGHTER was injured tackling a blaze at a recycling centre yesterday.
The man suffered superficial burns after an explosion during the fire in a skip at Clough End Road, Haslingden.
A small mechanical crane, piles of tyres and some storage units full of slippers were badly damaged, and the cause is being investigated.
It was well into the evening when fire crews eventually left the scene, having been called out at 3.30pm.
Watch manager Gary Drinkwater said: “Our biggest problem was water.
"We had four fire engines relaying water to the incident.
“We had it under control by 5pm, but crews stayed on the scene to damp it down."
