Pendle fly-tippers leave cheeky note with their rubbish

FLY-TIPPERS who dumped televisions and computer monitors left a cheeky note warning the authorities to 'Be careful' when removing them.

The electrical items were dumped in a field off Lancashire Moor Road, Laneshawbridge.

The note, placed on one of the TVs, read: “I am heavy. Please be careful, thank you.”

Coun James Starkie, operational services cabinet member, said: “It’s disgraceful that some people think they can get away with dumping rubbish wherever they please, making Pendle look a mess in the process.

“Our staff investigate fly tipping like this one in Laneshawbridge and have a good track record of tracking down the culprits and prosecuting them.

“There’s really no need for people to fly-tip as there are household waste recycling centres at Colne and Barnoldswick.

"Both are open seven days a week and the staff will very obligingly help you with your heavy items.”

The council also operates a free collection service for bulky items.

Coun Jerry Stanford, of Laneshawbridge Parish Council, added: “We did suffer from a little bit of fly-tipping when the Emmott Arms closed, in the centre of the village.

“But since the pub reopened we have not seen a reoccurence.

"This is a new thing and we will keeping a close eye on the situation.”

Council staff have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which is thought to have occurred on Thursday, July 15, as the equipment could have posed a risk to animals or children.

Ian Metcalf, waste management officer, said: “It could be that a Pendle resident or business owner attached the notice when the television was taken away for repair.

“I’m keen to speak to whoever taped the message to the side of the television to find out who took it away.

“It would appear that the person who dumped this rubbish illegally in Laneshawbridge had no intention of disposing of it properly.”
