THREE members of a family-run Burnley fashion business will enter the Dragons’ Den tonight.

The representatives from Bobo Woman will appear in the hit BBC show to try and secure £75,000 from Peter Jones, Theo Paphitis, Deborah Meaden, Duncan Bannatyne and James Caan.

The company sells clothes that can be worn in several different ways.

Among their range is a dress which can be worn in 10 ways, and a cardigan that can be worn in six.

Husband and wife Neil and Janet Allday, and Janet’s cousin Kathleen Simpkin, started the company, which has an office in Manchester Road, Clowbridge, and a factory at the Network 65 Business Park, in Hapton, in February. Janet and Kathleen came up with the innovative clothing idea while on holiday.

Neil, business development director, said: “Janet and Kathleen went on holiday but had to pay extra baggage costs after packing too much.

“When they got back they had found they hadn’t worn 80 per cent of the stuff anyway, so came with an idea to develop items that can be worn in a variety of ways.”

Janet and Kathleen planned to make the items from home and sell them on eBay, but Neil, a business adviser by trade, spotted potential in the idea.

“I tried to sell it to a few shopping channels and got a really good response,” he said. “It’s doing really well now.”

Neil described the Dragons experience as ‘nerve-wracking but exciting’.

He said: “We were with the Dragons for about an hour and a half. They liked the idea and gave us some good advice.

“Janet spent ages preparing her speech but when she got in there she abandoned it and did it off the top of her head.”

Bobo Woman is close to signing a deal with a German shopping channel and selling goods through UK catalogue Grattan.
