SIX tonnes of prime garden compost will appear in a Big Heap at an Accrington supermarket tomorrow.
The event, part of International Compost Awareness Week, takes place at the Asda supermarket in Hyndburn Road.
People will be encouraged to help themselves to a bag of the sweet-smelling, crumbly, natural soil improver to use in their gardens and window boxes.
The compost, which is normally on sale at Household Waste Recycling Centres for £2.50 a bag, is made from residents' recycled "green" garden waste. Visitors can also try their hand at making a plant pot from newspaper and plant a sunflower seed in it using some of the free compost and take it home.
Cat Holden, from Lancashire County Council's home composting team, said: "We want to fill the county with these bright yellow sunflowers, while showing people how compost made from green materials can produce first class results in your garden."
Experts will be on hand to offer their composting know-how.
