BURNLEY'S health trust has been asked to support the East Lancashire SuperScan appeal.
Chief executive David Chew told trust members, clinicians had welcomed the idea and the opportunity of using the new equipment.
He said the board had been asked to approve of fund-raising activities in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale for the appeal.
The campaign, for £1m to buy a magnetic imaging resonance scanner, is backed by the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
Community health council chairman Coun Frank Clifford said he hoped the trust would make sure there were people trained and it would be available 24 hours a day.
