LANCS LYNX 19

BARROW BRAVES 4

LANCASHIRE Lynx continued their campaign in the inaugural Silk Cut Challenge Cup competition beating Barrow at Deepdale (writes CASSIE WILLESCROFT).

Once again, Kevin Tamati was forced to shuffle his players with the result of hooker Joe Walsh playing on the wing and Steve Gee filling the eternal problem of the number thirteen shirt.

Although these selections surprised a number of the Lynx faithful, both Walsh and Gee played well in these unfamiliar position.

A missed penalty meant that the Lynx could not take the lead three minutes into the game, but six minutes later Ray Waring made up for this with the first try of the match. Barrow failed to clear the ball and it was left dangerously near the line. The loose ball was picked up by Waring who made easy work of sneaking over the whitewash to take the Lynx four points ahead.

The remaining thirty minutes of the half saw no other tries, with the scoring coming from penalties taken by Neil Allday and Barrow's Phil Atkinson, and another drop goal from Andy Ruane. The second half belonged to the Lynx as they clocked up another three tries.

Man of the match, Ray Waring moved one step closer to his hat-trick after 50 minutes and completed the feat with 13 minutes remaining.

Waring's final try of the afternoon proved to be the last for the Lynx after a neat pass from substitute Lee Westwood gave the ball to Allday who in turn set up Waring's try.

Lancashire Lynx: Parsley, Waring, Allday, Stewart, Walsh, Ruane, Emery, Taylor, Smith, Norton, Francis, Molyneux, Gee. Subs: Westwood, Gleave, Briscoe, Barr.
