THERE are not enough policemen to combat crime but I spotted on TV (yet again) an extremely tasty specimen playing 'sheepdog' to a pack of press representatives outside the home of a scruffy nonentity. The reason for this gathering of gratuitous gawpery was apparently the imminence of some pre-divorce ritual. A bigger waste of police time I cannot imagine.

The employers of the said 'news' hounds should be presented with an extremely large bill, say £5,000 per representative, to defray the cost of diverting said constabulary.

Note well the very same employees will, at the drop of a circulation point or two, lament the authorities for their failure to put enough size twelves on the beat to protect Joe Public. I rest my case.
