GREAT Harwood Town boss Ian McGarry has vowed to continue the fight in the wake of shock revelations that The Showground club could be in danger of folding, writes ANDY NEILD.

The UniBond First Division outfit urgently need a cash injection in the region of £150-200,000 in order to meet the League's demands in regard to ground improvements.

The list of major work, which must be completed before the summer, includes the construction of a new stand.

Not only that, but there are complications over the lease on the ground, currently owned by the adjacent Monroe's Nightclub, which is set to run out in the near future and is not expected to be renewed.

Unless a benefactor can stump up the cash to buy The Showground outright and pay for the improvements, adding up to a total bill in the region of £250-300,000, non-league football in the town may die.

That type of situation is one McGarry can relate to after years of financial struggle in his days at Darwen and he is adamant he will not turn his back on the struggling club. I'm not a quitter and I'm certainly not thinking of walking away.

"Until I know a bit more about the situation I don't really want to comment about the financial side.

"But I'm a fighter and it is something I've had to cope with before.

"We've all got to pull together and try and put the great back into Great Harwood."

It is not just off the pitch where Harwood are having problems.

The Reds have only won one league game all season in an alarming slump which has left them isolated at the foot of the table by six clear points.

Tomorrow's home game against Bradford Park Avenue is one they simply must win before they get cut adrift at the bottom.

"We have to get three points, it's as simple as that," said McGarry.

"I don't think this news will have any dramatic effect on the players. It cannot affect them anymore because we are bottom of the league already.

"We cannot get any lower."
