A £500,000 order to light up one of the world's tallest hotels has been won by an East Lancashire firm.

Barrowford-based lighting firm AC/DC, has been awarded a contract to manufacture and supply lighting to the Chicago Beach Hotel, in Dubai.

AC/DC will be supplying more than 14,000 metres of cold cathode lighting for use in the hotel.

All the lighting will be manufactured at the company's Barrowford factory and the first shipment is due to leave the works in mid-November, with the contract running until mid-1999.

"The order was won in the face of fierce international competition," said Gorden Routledge, managing director.

"Having recently completed a £1 million contract at the Trafford Centre, this new order safeguards the company's existing 20 jobs."

AC/DC lighting recently opened a German office as it continues to broaden its customer base.

"This latest order underlines our continuous efforts to develop and produce innovative lighting products for a worldwide market."
