A LACK of commitment by the players was the greatest concern expressed at Rishton CC's annual meeting.

But there was also some criticism of professional Corrie Jordaan's attitude.

Chairman Rod Simpson said the club had relied too much on the captain and professional last season and that they had a problem simply getting players to turn out, which was unacceptable.

And he contrasted "model club man" David Wells with many of the present players "who act with total contempt for the club".

Mr Simpson added: "Despite his faults, Corrie Jordaan did not get the support he deserved as professional. We know his kinship with Jonty Rhodes is distant and no-one would come up from Somerset to watch him bat. But he is a matchwinning bowler."

Jordaan has been told he must do more on the coaching side when he returns in summer.

Secretary Stuart Hacking warned that the club might not be able to field a second team in the not too distant future without more commitment and some junior sides were in danger of folding.

Second team captain Frank Barden said: "The attitude of certain youngsters towards their team-mates, opposition and training was a total disgrace.

"But having a professional who also had a poor attitude towards training and some of the people he played with did not help either."

Russell Whalley was named player of the year, with Sean Hutchinson junior player of the year.
