BURY'S erratic season took a turn for the surrealistic at Cambridge where manager Andy Preece was reprimanded by police following his half time protests to the referee. By that time The Shakers were three goals down with strikes from Wanless, Benjamin and Hansen putting paid the Burys' hopes of returning with the points. But also by half time both Lutel James and Paul Reid had been sent off and it appeared that Bury would be overrun and a heavy defeat seemed imminent. Just when it seemed things could not get any worse, young striker Dean Crowe was carried off in the opening minutes of the second half with a suspected broken leg. Against that background, the Shakers did well not to concede any further goals in a spirited rearguard action. As for the passionate Preece, it remains to be seen whether any further action is taken.
