A WOMAN who was seriously hurt when racing youths caused a parked car to career into her path is starting to remember the horror five-vehicle smash as she recovers in hospital.

Anita Shaw, 37, was hit by her parent's Ford Escort last Saturday after it was shunted onto the pavement near their home in Revidge Road, Blackburn. The culprits later fled the scene.

The amateur dramatics enthusiast suffered multiple fractures. She is being treated in Blackburn Royal Infirmary.

Her sister and next door neighbour, Janet, heard the impact of the crash from her bedroom.

"It was horrible. At first Anita didn't remember much but she is starting to have flashbacks," she said.

"She is in agony but is a lot more comfortable than she was last weekend. We still don't know how long she will have to stay in hospital but it will be at least three month before she can go back to work.

"Her arm was very badly broken and it looks like it will never be the same again. We have had a lot of people calling to ask how she is, even strangers. We really want the people responsible to be caught."

Anita is a personal assistant at Bally International, Colne, and an active member of Blackburn Drama Club. She lives with her parents Glenys and Bernard and brother Paul, and was due to move into her new home before the accident.

Police suspect a black Peugeot 205, registration F946 BOH and a red Toyota MR2, were racing immediately prior to the collision.

Police are appealing for information about the incident. Anybody who can help should ring 01254 353764 or Crimestoppers free and in confidence on 0800 555111.
