SHALE extraction will transform the canalbank side of Pennington Flash.

And if planning conditions are strictly observed, there should minimal traffic nuisance as more than 100 lorries a day rumble over Plank Lane rucks to Ince.

Cllr Brian Jarvis, who lives in the Plank Lane area, told The Journal: "Reclaiming Ramsdale's Tip will provide a very attractive addition to Pennington Country Park and add to its popularity.

"It will transform the area."

"The material removed will also provide a suitable top dressing for Amberswood tip reclamation."

Work on removing shale from the tip began in 1994 but stopped when landfill funding dried-up.

During that working period Cllr Jarvis said he and colleagues received nuisance complaints from residents angry with the mess caused by lorries travelling from the sites.

"I am all for this project and will be very pleased when Ramsdale's Tip is reclaimed.

"Last time there was a fall-out because of the route the lorries took.

"There should be no problems this time if the wagons stick to the route over the rucks and onto Bickershaw Lane, and use wheel washing facilities."
