BURY Gateway Club is on the hunt for volunteers and is staging an open night to demonstrate how they help people with learning disabilities.

The club, which meets at the Mosses Centre in Cecil Street, is holding the event this Friday (Nov 30).

Potential helpers are being encouraged to meet Project co-ordinator Margaret Baker and her staff and see for themselves the rewarding work.

Activities range from table tennis and netball, to football and dancing. Groups also get involved in pantomimes and arts and crafts.

Holidays are arranged at home and abroad, and there are regular trips to the theatre, restaurants and ten-pin bowling alley.

Volunteers are needed to help plan activities and to accompany them on some occasions.

Margaret said: "The open night will explain how people can help. It doesn't have to be a huge commitment as we can accommodate people who can help for only an hour or two or people who have a little more time to give."

The event, is from 7.30pm to 9pm, and includes a buffet supper.
