THE West End hit Cooking With Elvis brought cheers and tears to the full house at The Lowry.

The action is set in the North East and based around food, sex and a tortoise with a sticky fate.

Written by Lee Hall, whose work also includes Billy Elliot, we see binge drinking mum (Charlie Hardwick) lead astray innocent baker Stuart (Trevor Fox).

But trouble and spice is added to the mix by her daughter Jill (Jill Halfpenny) who is determined to see her wheelchair-bound, former Elvis impersonator father (Joe Caffrey) back together with her mother.

What follows is a medley of Elvis numbers, adult gags and dashes of black comedy that entertained the whole audience.

Although it won't be to everyone's taste, this is an over-18s show which contains some very funny lines, a good performance from Trevor Fox and some great Presley numbers.

High theatre it isn't but then again, it doesn't pretend to be and a packed houses prove that it's certainly popular.

One for broad-minded Elvis fans everywhere!
