ABOUT the wonderful pedestrianised Church Street in Blackburn -- or so we are brainwashed into thinking -- despite it enraging our own market people, who, incidentally, are charged top-price rents, we are getting a French market there, that is, if there is any room between the parked cars.

Having passed by the street on a Saturday morning and realised that a third of it looks like a private car park, we also noticed two or three cars double parked.

While we watched, a man came tearing out of a shop, jumped in his double-parked car and did a U-turn at the top on the expensive and beautiful cobbles.

We would have watched this pantomime further, but our time was up on our car park -- we pay, you see.
