ON May 15, I had the misfortune to be in the "non-flow" of traffic between the traffic lights at Plantation Street/Manchester Road (Eastgate) and the junction of Eastgate and Whalley Road in Accrington.

The time of day was 12.55pm at Plantation Street's junction and 13.05pm when finally crossing Whalley Road (800 yards), with traffic nose to tail, exhaust fumes being belched out by buses, trucks, cars and any other vehicle in the queue.

The car-hating (ex) Labour control group have effectively accelerated local residents' advance to the graveyard.

Will the Tory-controlled council have the guts to challenge Lancashire County Council and have traffic on the main artery of Accrington freed from the Fascist Left's control?

No wonder buses cannot keep to timetables.

HARRY ROBINSON, Juniper Court, Woodside Road, Accrington.
