AT last, our first Saturday afternoon win at home since the opening day of the season.

All Rovers supporters breathed a huge sigh of relief after Saturday's final whistle. A win and a clean sheet - deep joy!

The first half was certainly nothing to write home about, but after half time the team emerged and played with extra enthusiasm and urgency.

I thought that the ref and one of his assistants were particularly bad in the first half. Graham Poll always wants to be the centre of attention, and a good ref shouldn't be noticed.

No wonder Graeme Souness thought that Graham Poll was a Spurs supporter and got sent off for his opinion. Maybe Mr Poll likes The Colour Purple as Spurs certainly looked pretty in it. Even Darren 'Sicknote' Anderton looked quite healthy in it.

Back to the game, and the midfield were all superb. Barry Ferguson in particular is looking a class act, as our manager predicted. Some of his passes were perfect.

Tugay was a very able captain, midfield were playing as they should. How secure defence looks now with Craig Short and Andy Todd playing well together. That lot up the M65 apparently did us a favour as Todd has been rejuvenated since he came back.

I am very pleased that Gresko got our goal as he has had some stick this season, rightly so in some cases as he has made some costly errors. But he is trying to improve himself, and apparently he is the last player to leave training every day.

Paul Gallagher deserves a mention as he played hard and did a good job. His crossing of the ball was excellent. Maybe a place out wide could be found for him where he could use his crossing ability.

Finally a small criticism of our strike force: Could they please try to shoot on sight of goal, instead of trying to walk the ball into the net?

Hopefully we are now back on track, playing with confidence and skill. Bring on Dunny and the Brummies!
